Fairy Naming Ceremonies, otherwise known as Saining, are very important affairs to the Fae. A sén (old Irish) is a charm or spell of protection: in this case, the giving or recognition of one’s formal Faerie name.
Being named is a significant event for it is through the power of giving names to people and things that we are able to see and recognize them. We can speak of them directly, to others, and call them what they are.
Sainings are performed with a Wand of Juniper (for protection) and Silver Water (for purity, dreams, luck, intuition and again, protection). With recognition and blessings of the Fae, the newly named go safely on their way!
